Role: Gender and Protection Researcher

Team: Humanitarian team

Profile:

At CARE I lead a research project which aims to strengthen collaboration between women-led civil society organisations (CSOs) and international humanitarian actors, and build a more nuanced understanding of the protection risks women and girls face.

Women-led CSOs, ranging from community level groups to national NGOs, are often the first to respond in humanitarian crises, and strong collaboration with them is crucial in strengthening the quality and sustainability of programmes. As part of the research we’re speaking to women-led CSO and international humanitarian actors to identify examples of fruitful collaboration and challenges, in order to inform practical recommendations and guidance.

Before working with CARE I worked on protection and women’s empowerment programmes in the DRC for three years with Oxfam and IRC, and in the UK the women’s rights organisation Womankind Worldwide, which has helped me understand the different and complementary roles women-led organisations and INGOs can bring to the sector.

One good thing I’ve read

Standing with the change makers published by Womankind – A look at the role of women’s movements in bring about advances in women’s rights.
