Coinciding with the March 2014 Commission on the Status of Women taking place in New York, which is focussing on gender in the Millennium Development Goals, this policy brief provides suggestions on how to best enable progress on gender equality in the areas that have seen least progress since 2000.

CARE Malawi developed the Community Score Card (CSC) in 2002 as part of a project aimed at developing innovative and sustainable models to improve health services. Since then, the CSC has become an internationally recognised participatory governance approach for improving the implementation of quality services. This toolkit gives practical, step-by-step guidance on using the CSC approach. The toolkit is generic in nature and can be applied in any sector including health, education, water and sanitation, and agriculture.

International and national dynamics in Latin America are reconfiguring the relationships between the main development actors. These dynamics are shifting the ground for civil society organisations and impacting on their ability to fulfil their role in fighting poverty and inequality and promoting democratisation. CARE commissioned research in Bolivia, Brazil, Nicaragua and Peru in 2007 to explore how the international and national contexts are affecting the ability of civil society to influence public and aid policy (with particular reference to the policies and practices of the World Bank and IDB).

The aim of this case study is to share CARE Peru’s experience of trying to put accountability into practice within their earthquake response - what worked well, the challenges faced and the lessons that were learnt along the way.

In the past decades aid delivery to developing world had continued to change. This report explores challenges faced by NGOs together with implications of the rapidly changing aid delivery modalities in the aftermath of Paris declaration on especially both international and local CSOs, using case studies of four African countries: Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda.
