CARE International’s fourth annual review of the most under-reported humanitarian crises in the world – the natural disasters and conflicts that have affected a million people or more and yet received the least worldwide media attention in 2019.

Social movements are a critical vehicle for change around the world, including in many countries where CARE operates. This Power Tool provides guidance on how CARE (and others) can engage in strategic partnerships with social movement actors. It is based on the work of CARE in Latin America and the Caribbean to promote dignified work for domestic workers and advance their rights. Available in Arabic, English, French, and Spanish.

Promoting inclusive governance for CARE means that women, men, girls and boys should have the opportunity and ability to participate meaningfully in public decisions that affect their lives, hold decision-makers to account and provide feedback on the relevance and effectiveness of actions by public authorities and other power-holders, including CARE. This report highlights accomplishments and lessons on promoting our Inclusive Governance approach across the CARE confederation based on data from July 2016 to June 2017.

CARE has been working with Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) since we first launched the model in Niger in 1991. Over the years, VSLAs have reached more 7.6 million members, 81% of them women. The economic impacts of the VSLA groups are well documented. Less formally documented is the impact that VSLAs have on women themselves and on the social fabric of their communities.

The Made by Women strategy seeks to ensure women in the garment industry have access to decent jobs, are free from violence and harassment and can give voice to their rights at work. CARE has the ambitious goal of economically empowering 8 million women garment workers in Asia by 2021. This multi-country, participant-led study asked women, and the men in their communities, what gender-sensitive cash and voucher assistance means to them. From the research we were able to define the elements of gender-sensitive cash and voucher assistance that work, and make recommendations for CARE's work.
