This research was funded by the Feminist Open Government Initiative, which uses research and action to encourage governments and civil society to champion initiatives leading to gender advancements in and through open government. This includes mainstreaming gender issues throughout the co-creation of action plans that are developed as part of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), and adopting more gender-focused commitment content.

Women’s marginalisation in public life and under-representation in decision-making and leadership perpetuates gender injustice. Supporting women to have a say in decisions that affect their lives is a strategy for achieving equitable and sustainable change in all of CARE’s work, including women’s economic justice, the right to health, food, water and nutrition, climate justice, and humanitarian action. This position paper provides guidance and resources for CARE leadership and staff to enable us to respond to women's aspirations for equal voice and social transformation.

On August 4 2020, the devastating Beirut explosion shook the whole city to its core, taking the lives of 191 persons (120 males, 58 females, and 13 unspecified), wounding at least 6,500, and leaving 300,000 people displaced. The impact of the explosion compounded with the worst economic crisis in the history of Lebanon and the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to significantly push back what gains have been made on gender equality in the country. This report assesses how diverse women, men, girls, boys, and gender minorities were affected, with a close look at the specific impact on older, disabled, refugee, migrant, and LBQT (lesbian, bisexual, queer, and trans) women.

The UK government’s Integrated Review of Security, Defence, Development and Foreign Policy is intended to help define the government’s vision for the UK’s role in the world over the next decade. CARE International UK made this submission which calls on the UK to drive poverty reduction and sustainable development with high quality, impactful aid; and put gender equality and women’s human rights at the heart of foreign policy and international aid.

Three months after CARE’s first Rapid Gender Analysis on COVID-19, what has changed, what is the same, and what do we know now? CARE has continued to closely monitor this situation by conducting context-specific analyses in 5 regions covering 64 countries. This has included conversations and data collection with more than 4,500 women. This new analysis confirms the initial findings and predictions of the first analysis, and reveals new areas of high priority for women and girls — and for men and boys — as the crisis deepens.
