The true cost of delivering COVID vaccines: South Sudan
Currently, COVAX estimates the financial cost of delivering a vaccine is equivalent to US$1.66 per dose supplied (US$3.70 per person for two doses). However, CARE’s recent analysis of South Sudan’s vaccination campaign shows that the estimated delivery costs from “tarmac to arm” for vaccines in these areas are actually $9.97 per dose of vaccine administered ($22.22 per person fully vaccinated). In other words, CARE found that COVAX’s underestimated the cost of vaccine distribution by as much as six times.
